Who we are

Winny Math is an online math tutoring team founded by Brett Caslick, a Queen's University student. Our tutors are university students who recently took the same Ontario math courses your child is in now, so they remember exactly where each unit gets hard and how to explain it plainly. Every lesson is live on a shared whiteboard, one-on-one or in a small group of two or three, and we work with families across Mississauga and the rest of Ontario.

How we help Mississauga students

Most Mississauga students attend schools in the Peel District School Board or the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, and both follow the Ontario math curriculum. We line each lesson up with the unit your child's teacher is covering: number sense and fractions in the early grades, the Grade 9 course (MTH1W) and the EQAO Grade 9 assessment, and the Grade 12 courses universities ask for (MHF4U, MCV4U and MDM4U), plus AP, IB and first-year university. A short diagnostic finds the exact point where math stopped making sense, and custom practice between sessions keeps it from slipping again. What we do

Everything happens online, by appointment, with evenings and weekends available, so a student in Streetsville, Port Credit, Erin Mills, Meadowvale or Cooksville gets the same tutor and the same lesson with nobody driving anywhere. Lessons are $40 per hour for solo lessons, or $25 per student per hour in a small group of two or three, with custom practice material included either way. How a Mississauga student's first month with us looks

The first session is mostly listening. Your child's tutor runs a short diagnostic: a handful of questions that start comfortably below grade level and climb until we find where the reasoning breaks down. In Grade 7 that might be fractions hiding inside a ratio problem. In MCR3U it is often the algebra underneath a functions question rather than the function itself. Knowing the exact spot saves weeks of re-teaching material your child already understands.

From there the tutor builds custom practice that your child works through between lessons, usually a short set they can finish in 20 to 30 minutes. The next lesson starts by looking at what went wrong in that set, which keeps every hour pointed at a real gap. By the end of the first month most families can see where the plan is heading: which unit comes next in class, which skill we are shoring up, and how the next test fits in.

Peel and Dufferin-Peel: same curriculum, different calendars

Most Mississauga students attend either the Peel District School Board or the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. Both teach the Ontario math curriculum, so the content of a Grade 5 unit on area or a Grade 10 MPM2D unit on quadratics is the same whichever board you are in. What differs is pacing. Two schools a few kilometres apart can reach trigonometry weeks apart, and semester or timetable structures can change when exams land.

That is why we plan around your child's actual course outline rather than a fixed syllabus. Bring the unit list or a recent test and we will match the lesson to what is happening in class this week. What we hear from families across Mississauga

The concerns change with the neighbourhood less than you might expect, but the logistics change a lot. A Port Credit family with a child in a busy rep sports schedule needs evening slots that move when the season does. Parents in Meadowvale or Streetsville who work downtown often are not home until after six, so a tutor who can start at 7:30 matters more than one who is close by. Families near City Centre and Cooksville are often juggling two or three kids in different grades, which is where back-to-back sessions or a small group of siblings helps.

Grade 8 decisions and specialized programs

Mississauga families often face a real decision in Grade 8. Both boards run specialized secondary programs, including International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement pathways at some schools, and application timelines often fall in the fall of Grade 8. A student heading into IB or AP math needs strong algebra and comfort with multi-step problems well before the program starts.

We can help in two ways. Before the switch, a few months of focused work on the skills that Grade 9 and 10 math lean on most. Why online suits a city this size

Mississauga covers close to 300 square kilometres, and a ten-kilometre trip can take five minutes or forty depending on the 403 and Hurontario. In-person tutoring tends to shrink to whoever happens to live nearby. Online, your child is matched to the tutor who suits their course and personality, wherever that tutor is.

Lessons happen on video with a shared whiteboard, so every step of a problem stays on screen and can be revisited. Your child can upload a photo of a homework question or a returned test, and the tutor works through it with them.
